Early life before fame
Kathleen started her acting career when she appeared in several commercials. After that, she made her professional television debut in 1971 when she portrayed the role of Liza Walton Sentell in the popular daytime soap opera Search for Tomorrow, which was written by Denise Nickerson. Kathleen appeared on the show until 1974, after which she quit in order to move from New York City to Los Angeles. After arriving in Los Angeles, Don Most arranged an agent for her. Her first film debut was in a small role in 1974’s The Godfather Part II. She portrayed an actress that was featured in the play that Genco Abbandando and the young Vito Corleone attended. For her role in Promises in the Dark, Kathleen spent nearly three months preparing for it. She has since stated that it was her favorite role to play. The film did earn Kathleen a Golden Globe nomination.

Kathleen was married to actor Michael Hoit (1980-1986). Currently, she is married to the musician Thomas Dolby since 1988, and they have three children together.
