Jayne Atkinson is a British and American actress. She is best known for her roles in 24, House of Cards, Criminal Minds, and Free Willy.

Atkinson was born in England but moved to America with her family when she was only nine years old. She married her husband, Michael Gill, in 1998, and they have a child together.
Atkins started working as a theatre actress. She was quite acclaimed for various roles, such as her performance in The Skriker and The Rainmaker. She debuted off-Broadway in 1987 and then debuted on Broadway the same year. She earned several Tony Award nominations.
In film, the actress debuted in 1993 in Free Willy, where she played Annie Greenwood. She would return for the sequel in 1995 in the same role for Free Willy 2: The Adventure Home. In 1994, she was in Blank Check.
She was in Our Town, playing Mrs. Gibbs, which earned her a Satellite Award for Best Supporting Actress nomination.
In 2004, she was in The Village, followed by a role in Syriana the next year. 2006 saw her appear in 12 and Holding.
In 2009 she was in Handsome Harry, then the next year in The Getaway. Finally, in 2016, she was in The Congressman.
Atkinson has also had a prolific TV career. She debuted in A Year in the Life, where she would appear for several episodes, in 1986. In 1989, she was in Moonlighting.
1990 to 1991 saw her appear in Parenthood as Karen Buckman. In 1995, she was in The X-Files.
Between 2001 and 2002, the actress appeared in a regular role in The Education of Max Bickford. She was in Law & Order in 2002 and Joan of Arcadia in 2004.
In 2006, Atkinson was cast as Karen Hayes in the hit series 24. She would appear in the show for 30 episodes and be recognized with a nomination for a Screen Actors Guild Award.
Between 2007 and 2014, as well as in 2020, Atkinson would play Erin Strauss in Criminal Minds. She would appear in 24 episodes.
2008 saw her appear in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and Law & Order. In 2010, she was in Gossip Girl, followed by a role in White Collar the next year.

In 2015, she was in Zoo, followed by roles in The Good Wife and Chicago Med the next year.
In 2018, she played a central role in Madam Secretary as Vice President Teresa Hurst for twenty episodes. She would also appear in The Walking Dead and Castle Rock that year.
In 2019, she got the role of Della Bedford, a series regular in Bluff City Role, and as Ruth Martin on four episodes of Clarice.
The actress is known for playing authority figures.
