Atkinson was born in England but moved to America with her family when she was only nine years old. She married her husband, Michael Gill, in 1998, and they have a child together.

Professional Life

Atkins started working as a theatre actress. She was quite acclaimed for various roles, such as her performance in The Skriker and The Rainmaker. She debuted off-Broadway in 1987 and then debuted on Broadway the same year. She earned several Tony Award nominations.
